Project Description
La Decisión de Joaquina is a documentary feature directed and produced by Javier Falcó, telling the story of Joaquina Sánchez and her fight for the right to die with dignity. This documentary explores the challenges she faced in accessing euthanasia in Spain despite the law allowing it.
Through personal testimonies, archival footage, and a deeply human narrative, the film not only documents a specific case but also fosters reflection on the fundamental right to make personal decisions about life and death. La Decisión de Joaquina documentary highlights the societal and legal implications of the euthanasia law, making it a crucial piece of social cinema.
The Role of Music in La Decisión de Joaquina
The original soundtrack, composed by Héctor González Sánchez (@hachedelara), was created using the multi-track from the piece Shiver (licensed by Glocal Sound SYNC). This carefully curated selection of music enhances the emotional depth of the film, ensuring both coherence and diversity across different emotional moments. The sound design aligns perfectly with the documentary’s narrative flow, enriching each scene with the perfect sonic atmosphere.
Crafting Emotional Depth Through Music
To achieve a seamless integration of sound and storytelling, the multi-track from Shiver (licensed by Glocal Sound SYNC) was not simply used in its original form but carefully deconstructed and reassembled by composer Héctor González Sánchez (@hachedelara).
Specific instrument layers were extracted and reworked to create new variations of the original piece, carefully designed to reflect the different emotional intensities throughout the documentary.
This allowed the soundtrack to transition naturally through moments of tension, introspection, and resolution, becoming not just an accompaniment to the visuals but an integral part of the narrative flow, enriching each scene with the perfect sonic atmosphere.
