“Turquesa como el Limón” is a flamenco show created, produced, and directed by Rocío Molina, with the intention of offering the audience a different kind of beauty, one that doesn’t conform to societal standards but is undeniably beautiful. Rocío Molina and Laura Rozalén represent young flamenco in this performance, one embracing tradition and ancient flamenco, while the other offers a fresh, critical perspective, all conveyed with ironic and playful humor.

Performer Biographies

Rocío Molina

Born in Málaga in 1984, Rocío Molina is an iconoclastic choreographer who has created her own unique language within flamenco, blending tradition with avant-garde influences. Known for her technical virtuosity, contemporary exploration, and conceptual risk, Molina’s work is defined by its fusion with other artistic disciplines like cinema, literature, and philosophy.

Throughout her career, she has collaborated with prominent flamenco artists such as María Pagés, Miguel Poveda, and Antonio Canales, as well as contemporary creators like Carlos Marquerie. Her pieces, including Almario, Turquesa como el Limón, Oro viejo, and Caída del Cielo, have earned her multiple awards, including the National Dance Award (2010), several Max Awards, and the prestigious Silver Lion Award from the Venice Biennale (2022). Molina’s performances have captivated audiences worldwide, from the New York City Center to the Barbican Centre in London.

Laura Rozalén

Born in Madrid in 1979, Laura Rozalén began her stage career in 2005 with De puertas adentro in the Mar Vivó Company (daughter of Luisillo). She has performed in tablaos in Seville and Madrid, collaborated with the Dos por Medio Company of Nani Paños and Rafael Estévez, and in 2006, Rocío Molina invited her to join Turquesa como el Limón, where she debuted as a choreographer. Laura currently runs her own dance studio in Madrid, where she continues to preserve the Sevillian dance tradition.
