The Making of Glocal Sound’s Sonic Manifesto: A Behind-the-Scenes Look
We’re thrilled to show you the process of creating our latest project from behind the scenes.
From the initial concept to the final product, we took each step with careful consideration. Our goal was to create a unique and engaging audiovisual experience.
Video Material Selection and Emotional Curve Mapping
The first step was to draw inspiration from color. On this occasion, we decided to step out of our comfort zone and explore new forms of expression. To do this, we used an artificial intelligence tool to create various random color palettes.
The main idea of the manifesto began to take shape. That is “No matter what the essence (color) of our client is, we are capable of expressing that essence and elevating it, with personalized music and audio.”
Next, we selected the palettes that we liked the most. This process was quick and intuitive, guided more by the heart than by the mind. We didn’t overthink it, we simply followed our instincts.
After selecting the palettes, we then intuitively reorganized them to tell a story through color.
This step provided us with a guide for the emotional curve of the project and inspired us in the general conceptualization, the selection of archetypes, the creation of the text, the selection of video materials, sound design and music.
We intentionally placed a climax in the daker, bolder tones at the golden section.
Poetry Creation
In this case, our concern wasn’t to create a typical video that makes the product understood within the first three seconds. We wanted something different. Our aim was to create an overall emotional impact rather than a precise definition of our services.
We sought to evoke feelings, stir curiosity, and leave a lasting impression that goes beyond the conventional understanding of what we do. This approach aligns with our belief in the power of sound to transcend words and directly touch the human spirit.
To enhance this effect, we crafted a poem in iambic pentameter to serve as the backbone of our narrative.
Iambic Pentameter is a poetic meter form that traditional English poetry commonly uses. It’s especially famous for its use in William Shakespeare’s works.
Comprising five iambic feet, a line of iambic pentameter totals ten syllables, thereby creating a rhythm of ‘da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM’.
For our project, we specifically utilized this poetic rhythm. It effectively provided structure and musicality to our text. Consequently, this resulted in a rhythmic flow that intertwined seamlessly with the music and sound design.
AI-Human Collaboration in Narration Sketching
At Glocal Sound, we believe in the synergy between artificial intelligence and human creativity.
We started with a narration sketch created with the help of AI (text-to-voice).
We then established a rhythm for the video using our Digital Audio Workstation (Reaper). Subsequently, we edited the narration sketch to align with the click and accent structure.
The outcome was an initial draft of the soundtrack: a click track accompanied by a temporary voiceover and a strategically placed kick drum to accentuate the structural transitions. This draft served as a rhythmic blueprint, guiding the subsequent stages of our process.
After this, we were fortunate to collaborate with the talented singer-songwriter Erik Sjöholm, who graciously provided the final voiceover. Erik is a friend and collaborator of Glocal Sound, and his contribution greatly enriched our project.
Video Creation and Editing
At Glocal Sound, we created and edited the 4K video in-house using Davinci Resolve. We based our work on the rhythmically edited AI-generated voice-over, set to a beat of 138 bpm. A click track and a kick drum marked this beat, highlighting the structural and semantic changes in the narration.
This meticulous process allowed us to create a video that not only looks stunning but also perfectly aligns with the rhythm of the audio branding elements.
Sound Design & Harmonic Structure vs Music Arrangements
At this stage, we created screenshots of each relevant video frame and included them in the score to list all the necessary sounds and effects for the sound design.
After creating the sound design, we composed the harmonic structure of the musical composition based on the structure of the text and image, creating a through-line for the music.
Consequently, our challenge was to make it feel like a single piece, while each section had different arrangements and instrumentation, according to the expressed archetype in text and video.
Use of Glocal Sound’s Sonic DNA to enhance our Sonic Manifesto
We strategically used Glocal Sound’s sonic DNA and its main and secondary melodic themes to highlight certain key moments in the video.
Music Recording, Mixing, and Mastering
The final project was a symphony of sound, comprising a total of 183 tracks. This included a diverse mix of sound design elements and musical components, each carefully crafted and meticulously arranged to create a rich, immersive soundscape.
At the core of Glocal Sound, we recorded, mixed, and mastered the music, ensuring the highest quality and control over the final audio output. Héctor González Sánchez, the CEO of Glocal Sound, oversaw this process.
Final Video Adjustments of our Sonic Manifesto
Once the soundtrack and final voiceover were complete, we returned to DaVinci Resolve for the final adjustments to the video. This stage involved fine-tuning the visuals to ensure they perfectly matched the rhythm and tone of the audio. We paid close attention to the timing of each scene, making sure the transitions were smooth and the pacing was just right.
This meticulous process allowed us to create a seamless audio-visual experience, where the visuals and the sound work together to tell a compelling story.
The result is a video that not only looks great but sounds great too, offering viewers a truly immersive experience.
About Sound Design and Instrumentation
A unique aspect of our production process is that the majority of the sounds and instruments used in the production were created from scratch by us. We have our own sound library, which we have built over time, and this forms the basis of our sound design.
Additionally, for this project, we also licensed some sounds specifically for the occasion.
All the instruments and voices recorded are owned by Glocal Sound, giving us complete control over the audio elements.
Our final result seeks to mirror our own audio branding process. It begins with an initial idea inspired by our purpose and values, evolves into a musical concept that starts as incomplete, and gradually reaches its final form at the end of the video. Here, you can hear our complete sonic logo (in one of its multiple versions).
